Machinery and Equipment
Within the German economy, machinery and equipment showcase: Measured on output value, Germany is the leading supplier of machines wordwide ahead Japan, the US and China. Nearly 1 million people are working in more than 6,000 companies, generating gross sales of more than €250 billion. 90% of the market consists of companies with less than 250 employees, while only 2% of the companies have more than 1,000 people. Nevertheless, many of these small and medium-sized businesses are world market leader in the niche.
Driven by increasing competition from Asia, the market for standard machinery and equipment is highly challenged. European players are required to further specialise and offer more complex solutions in order to achieve sufficient margins. The required expertise can be acquired by taking over companies, e.g. in the field sensors or steering devices divisions.
More than three quarters of the German machines and equipment are produced for export, which has led to increased cross border M&A activity. The high expertise in innovation, based on excellent educated engineers, together with the seal of quality “Made in Germany”, make the German machinery and equipment sector an attractive field for investments, for both, international strategic buyers and financial investors.
